Silk TV launched in 2009 as Georgia’s first IPTV service with rewind functionality — a genuine market first in the South Caucasus. Backed by Silknet, the country’s largest telecoms operator, it has grown into the most widely-used pay-TV platform in Georgia, combining live channels, VOD, HD sports, and a multi-device streaming app called SilkGo. Seventeen years on, the question is whether it has kept pace with what subscribers expect.

What Silk TV is

Silk TV is Silknet’s IPTV and OTT pay-television service, delivered over fiber-optic broadband. It bundles live channels (including Silknet’s own Silk Universal and multiple Silk Sport HD tiers), video on demand, an Advanced PVR for recording, and a time-shift / rewind feature. Subscribers can also add premium add-ons like Megogo, Setanta Sports, and Amediateka. The service is accessible on set-top boxes, Smart TVs, and through the SilkGo mobile and web app. Silknet holds roughly 36% of Georgia’s IPTV market and serves around 267,000 households with pay-TV as of mid-2025.
